History of Southington CT

Southington has a history that predates its official 1779 founding. Years earlier, Samuel Woodruff left Farmington and established a new settlement in the area that was originally known as Panthorne. Residents eventually renamed it South Farmington and then changed it to Southington. Town records document 1726 as the year Southington residents built a meeting house. This was significant as it was independent of the Farmington Parish. The meeting house is no longer standing but a number of historic homes remain in fine condition.

During Southington’s early history, its thriving manufacturing presence included a cement mill, wood mills, and factories. The town has a proud military legacy that boasts volunteers in every armed conflict since the Revolutionary War. General Washington, General Lafayette, and other well-known military leaders made historic visits to Southington.

Relocating to Southington CT

At Brooke Group Real Estate, we know that relocating is never easy. That’s why we do everything we can to minimize your stress. We’ve also created this brief Relocating to Southington Guide. It includes local information and moving tips to help you during your relocation process.

1

CONTACT A REAL ESTATE AGENT

Contacting a Real Estate Agent when you first learn that you’ll be relocating to Southington is crucial. When you contact Brooke Group Real Estate, we take immediate steps to assist you in your search. We assess your home-buying requirements and use our resources to locate compatible properties.

2

SHARE YOUR HOME-BUYING GOALS WITH YOUR AGENT

You probably know what you want even before you begin your search. Once we understand your home buying goals, we focus on looking for specific property types and targeting those that meet your specifications.

3

VISIT BEFORE RELOCATING

You get a better feel for a home when you take a tour. An in-person visit allows you to see important details you might not notice in a print or online ad. We recommend extending your stay for a day or two so you can get a feel for the town and the people who will make up the community.

If you can’t visit before relocating to Southington, online listings often provide media presentations. Many include high definition photos, walkthrough videos, or 3D virtual tours. The right media presentation could make you feel confident enough to make a choice without seeing a property in person.

4

HIRE A PROFESSIONAL MOVER

DIY moving is an economical option but it can easily cause “relocation burnout”. Relocating to Southington (or anywhere!) may often be stressful. Movers help you reduce that stress. They pack everything, load everything, and drive it to your location. When they arrive at your destination they put everything exactly where you want it.

5

FIND IMPORTANT SERVICES

It’s a good idea to connect with service providers ahead of time. Here are a few must-have contacts to help you arrange schooling, medical care, and other services before relocating to Southington CT.

6

SELL YOUR CURRENT HOME

Arranging to have your home sold is one of the most difficult things you’ll have to do before relocating to Southington. If you’re moving because of a job, you won’t likely have enough time to sell your home. You might not even have enough to get it on the market!

When you contact us about relocating, we can also connect you with one of our associates in your area. You’ll have a Real Estate Professional working with you on both ends to make your home buying and selling go as smoothly as possible.
